The calculated daily gain for each window bay could then be used to calculate the total daily solar heat gains for the entire building during summer. This was simply a matter of counting the number of bays for each orientation, multiplying this amount by their respective heat gains, and then adding the results together.

Compared with the unshaded condition, the shading devices as a whole reduce solar heat gains by 18%.
