Carpool Proposal

To increase carpooling at the UO, our team has created a carpool proposal for the Department of Public Safety. This proposal is a compilation of suggestions based on case studies, surveys, and interviews our team has conducted over the course of Winter and Spring Term 2005.

SUGGESTIONS:
Some suggestions in this proposal are:
• Create a student postion to facilitate carpooling through publicity and coordination
• Offer multiday carpool permit packages for 2 or more people
• Offer more carpool parking throughout campus

• Create a UO only carpool database
• Increase parking permit prices to deter driving alone

SUGGESTED CARPOOL PACKAGES

Our team has created different carpooling packages to fit a variety of needs. Although the pricing may vary, this table presents our vision of the various options:

CARPOOL DATABASE

One other major suggestion is to provide a carpool database for UO students, faculty, and staff. Currently, those who want to carpool are left to find their own carpooling partners. Our research of other universities has shown that carpool databases are far more effective when they are university specific programs.

CARPOOL COORDINATOR

We suggest that a student employee or paid intern be responsible for coordinating and promoting the UO carpooling and alternative transportation program. Tasks include:

• Updating and entering data into the online carpooling database
• Assisting with carpool match-ups
• Contacting potential carpoolers
• Distributing information
• Coordinating and implementing the “One Less Car” competition
• Coordinating the Earth Week alternative transportation booth
• Publicizing the UO carpooling and alternative transportation programs.

This map shows the locations of additional priority parking. We believe that with the addition of priorty parking on other key areas of campus, carpooling in general will become more popular.
