Peer Review Checklist for an Essay
Analyzing an Argument (Essay #1)

1. In the opening paragraph (or opening paragraphs) does the writer give the reader a good idea of what the essay will be doing? Does the writer identify the essay being discussed and introduce the subject?
   
   
   
   
2. Is the essay fair? Does it face all the strengths (and weaknesses) of the argument being analyzed?
   
   
   
   
3. Has the writer used occasional quotations, in order to let the reader hear the tone of the author, and in order to insure fairness?
   
   
   
   
4. Is the analysis effectively organized? Even if it does not/cannot discuss the original essay paragraph by paragraph, does the analysis have a coherent structure of its own?
   
   
   
   
5. If the original essay relies partly on the writer's tone, does the analysis discuss this aspect?
   
   
   
   
6. Is the tone of the analysis appropriate?
