CHECKLIST FOR REVISING THE PARAGRAPH
Practice Assignment

- Does the paragraph have a clear topic sentence? Is the topic
sentence the first sentence?
- Does the body have enough supporting details and evidence?
- Have all extraneous, unimportant details been omitted?
- Does the concluding statement tie the paragraph together by
summarizing, interpreting, or judging the facts?
- Is the paragraph unified (all supporting detail relates to the
main point)?
- Is the paragraph coherent (all the main and supporting points
are clearly linked)?
- Is the paragraph developed logically (all details are arranged
in a way that makes the most sense)?
- What kind of sequence does the writer use (spatial,
chronological, effect-to cause, cause-to-effect, emphatic,
problem-causes-solution, comparison/contrast--see Lannon, ch. 12,
for additional information on these sequences).
