  1. Does the description have a title that promises exactly what is delivered?


  2. Have the item's overall features, as well as each part, been described?


  3. Has each part been defined before it is discussed?


  4. Has the function of each part been explained?


  5. Have comparisons with more familiar items been used whenever possible?


  6. Have visuals been used to provide clarification when needed?


  7. Will the intended reader be able to visualize the item from the description (even if the reader has never seen a similar item before)?


  8. Are any details unnecessary or confusing?


  9. Does the description answer these questions: what is it? what does it do? what does it look like? what is it made of? how does it work? and, how has it been put together?
Arrangement
  1. Does the description follow an introduction-body-conclusion structure?


  2. Does a list of the major parts appear at the end of the introduction?


  3. Does the description follow the clearest possible sequence?


  4. Are the headings appropriate and adequate?


  5. Are transitions between related ideas sufficient?
Style
  1. Is the description objective, with all relevant, observable details recorded in precise, factual language?


  2. Will the level of technicality connect with the intended audience?


  3. Is the description written in plain English?


  4. Is each sentence clear, concise, and fluent?


  5. Is the description in correct English?
