1. Restate the question your essay will answer.

2. In one of two sentences, state your major claim. (What do you think is true?)

3. In one or two sentences, state your major reason. (Why is this claim true?)

4. What additional reasons can you give?

5. Now write a clear, direct , argumentative thesis. (Although . . . I think . . . because . . . reason 1 . . . reason 2 . . . reason 3 . . . [for as many reasons as you have] . . . [therefore] . . . ) Refer to "Generating a Thesis," #6, for a longer explanation of this thesis statement.

6. Where in your draft will this thesis be introduced?
