Detailed information regarding the conference schedule and accommodations will be published in the February issue of the CAPN Bulletin.
1. The Meeting was called to order at 1:15 PM.
2. The minutes of the 1994 annual meeting were approved.
3. Report on Regional Associations meeting at the APA Meeting in Atlanta: It was reported that Jim Clauss served as CAPN's representative at the meeting. The APA is willing to allow CAPN to use its mailing list twice a year, should there be information we would like to disseminate to its membership.
4. National Committee on Latin and Greek: It was moved, seconded and passed that CAPN contribute 150.00 to the National Committee on Latin and Greek.
5. American Classical League: Catherine Connors read a letter from Rosemary Wagoner, CAPN's ACL delegate. Mrs. Wagoner will be CAPN's delegate to the 1995 ACL Meeting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The planning process for the 1998 ACL Convention scheduled for Seattle was discussed by Carl Strange.
6. Treasurer's report (please see the report on p. 3 of this Bulletin). Catherine Connors presented the Treasurer's report. After discussion of the rising cost of producing and mailing the bulletin, it was moved, seconded, and passed to set the CAPN Dues at $ 9.00 US and $ 12.50 Canadian. The feasibility of publishing the CACW abstracts as well as the CAPN abstracts for this joint meeting was discussed. Alain Gowing agreed to explore possible options, including electronic publication.
7. Report of the Scholarship Committee: Members for 1995: Richard Williams, David Lupher, Sheila Colwell. Upon the recommendation of the Scholarship Committee, scholarships were awarded to Nora MacDonald ($500, for summer study at the University of Washington), Kevin Cole ($150 toward a summer study tour), and Thomas Talboy ($150 toward a summer study tour).
8. New Officers. The following slate of officers was elected:
President: Jim Scott, University of Montana
Vice President: Laurel Bowman, University of Victoria
Secretary - Treasurer: Catherine Connors, University of Washington
Editor of the CAPN Bulletin: Alain Gowing, University of Washington
Executive Committee: Steve Lowenstam, University of Oregon; Bob Schmiel, University of Calgary; Linda Rutland Gillison, University of Montana; Alain Gowing, University of Washington; Catherine Connors, University of Washington.
9. New Business: The membership thanked Bob Schmiel and Martin Cropp (president of CACW) for their hard work in organizing the successful joint meeting in Banff. It was generally agreed that the experiment of meeting jointly with the Classical Association of the Canadian West had gone very well, and there was interest in exploring the possibility of future joint meetings (perhaps in 1997 in Victoria). On behalf of Jim Scott, Linda Rutland Gillison extended an invitation for next year's CAPN meeting in Missoula. It was agreed that Scott would set the dates after consultation about various holidays, academic calendars, and the CAMWS meetings [Note: the meeting has now been scheduled for March 29-30].
The success of the National Latin Exams and the methodology of modern textbooks were extolled and explained. The Council meetings and Plenary sessions carried out the business of the League and made constitutional decisions and plans for the future. It should be of special interest to CAPN member to learn that present planning indicates that the American Classical League is looking forward to meeting in Seattle at the University of Washington in 1998.
The time provided for entertainment and socializing resulted in many opportunities for sharing experiences and renewing friendships. Thank you again for appointing me to be CAPN's delegate to the ACL Council. I consider it a privilege.
Rosemary Wagoner
CAPN Delegate to the ACL Council
