3. Hatching to distinguish layers
Adding hatch behind the bushes contours the hill and accentuates the distance between the bushes and the trees. Additional hatching within the bushes brings out their form through light and shadow. The dark hatching on the right implies additional layers of vegetation by creating high-contrast edges against white.
