These are guides to some of the lowest prices on the Web. Keep in mind that these are lists of vendors who offer low prices. These are not lists of award winning vendors selling on the Web. Be sure to cross-reference with the Preferred Vendor List, and the Zoo, ask about vendors in the forsale groups, and other smart practices. There are vendors listed with these services who get regularly flamed in the news groups for the manner in which they handle sales, return policies, etc. Basically, take time to check them out before buying.
Buyer's Index Listings
for: Computer Components & Peripherals
- A search on "Matrox" brought up two vendors.
CompareNet
- Agrowing shopping directory for many products including computer peripherals.
Last time I looked (4/5/98) you could find some PC peripherals under Electronics
& Home Office.
ComputerESP
- Peripherals, supplies, software. Maybe the shoppers paradise you've been
looking for? Claims to update 100,000 prices daily. Can you say -- Way
COOL!! Haven't tried it much, but already I consider it a must visit when
checking prices. ComputerESP's one-click search
engine. Try it, you'll like it.
Computer Price Cruncher - Now called KillerApp (see below)
Computer.com
(CNet) - Systems
and peripherals. Not much when you are looking for components (motherboards,
CPU's, etc.)
Disk
Drive Price Survey
- hard drives only, but ... that's cool! This is a good place to check
for drive prices, but confusing. Author makes you guess a bit at which
link to click on, and the layout could certainly be better. Still, thanks
for a helpful page!
KillerApp!
- Information is updated daily, direct from the dealers and manufacturers.
LowerPrices.Com
- Tracks some good pricing on some CPU's, motherboards, 3D
Accelerators, and sound cards.
NetQuote (Computer Currents Interactive) - Fill in a form, describe what you want, and vendors will contact you.
Online Used Computer Swap
- An organized forum for private users to buy and sell used
computers and computer components.
PC Catalog's Buyer's
Directory LaunchPad
- Systems and peripherals. Updated
weekly, the Buyer's Directory allows you to comparison shop amoung 300+
leading mail-order vendors offering for sale 4000+ networking, microcomputer,
software, peripheral, and new technology products.
Not as configurable as other sites, but very nice Java based
front end.
PDA Page
- Prices for some laptops & PDA's.
PriceScan
- Other sites show you only the prices
they're paid to list. PriceScan shows you all competitive prices (PriceScan's
description of themselves)
The Price Shoppers
Top7
- Comparative pricing by vendors +
auction - Consumer based guide to more "best" prices.
PricePages:Quotes
Page - Auto
quotes from vendors. Ivor
O'Conner now lets you request a quote on a product from 80 some odd vendors
with one single E-mail. I like it ... kinda wonder what the vendors think
though.
Price Watch -
Systems, peripherals, software.
One step up in the "best deal" category (and still the quickest, easiest
to use with the best prices), the Price Watch will ferret out the standing
price of a hardware item from many vendors and set them before you in one
easy-to-read list. This is impressive information. I believe you can do
best with patient shopping in the news groups, but this is a no-nonsense
tool for shopping for hardware. A must have link. Between this page and
the PricePages Index, your purchasing of hardware just got a whole lot
easier. Hardware,
software.
Price
Wizard - Just
choose your components, and click the Start Searching button. Up pops a
list of computers that meet your criteria! That's a direct quote from the
Price Wizard. I haven't tried it yet.
StreetPrices
Computers:Hardware -
Now this is an interesting competitor to PriceWatch.
Scans the best prices from over 90 sites, and is very easy to use getting
right to the point of what might be a best price.
Shopfind
-
Tech Shopper -
Build your own PC by selecting the components you want included. 170+ resellers. Hardware,
software, network.
Welcome
to WebShopper -
a shopping page from PC/Mac/Info World Publishing.
ZD NetBuyer -
Systems, peripherals, supplies. ZD Net has now come out with
a detailed shopping guide searching 100+ vendors. Useful, but nothing like
the Price Watch when shopping. I do like the ability to place products
side by side to compare them.
Books.
Amazon.com -
Computer & Internet Books - Technical - Browse
Open
Group Books -
13,000+ current computer
book titles at prices 25% off of retail.
Free delivery for orders over $40.00. This is a one-stop vendor for computer
related book titles that I have included here just because the prices are
so very good.
AMD K6 Price Watch - (unfortunately not updated as of 7/97) - Does just that. Gives you a list of best prices for the AMD K6
Computer Bargain Hunters (site does not exist?) - Systems and peripherals. This is yet another good resource site that displays the best (100, in this case) prices that its search engine locates in its database of many vendors. Search results only give you price, vendor, and model. PriceWatch is more detailed in its results.
Computer Currrents Hardware Search - (12/31/97) Page is currently being re-worked. Not available.
MicroPricer - (They have been "updating" this page since April, 1996 ???) "Online publication which lists 1000's of pieces of equipment for sale by used equipment dealers listed in the Used Computer Mall," to quote the page. They are having some trouble in maintaining a current database.
PC Buyer's Guide -
Side-by-side price comparisons of computers, printers, peripherals, memory
and many other computer items from dozens of manufacturers.
Pricefinder: PC & Mac memory
modules - A good resource for pricing
memory, CPU's, and modems. The creator of the page is just starting to
price modems. Search "500 prices from 50 vendors updated every night!"
I like this interface, it is quick and well organized.
Tiger
RAM Watch - (hasn't been updated in a while, too bad!)
This was a very good site for looking up RAM prices. Under development,
but certainly looks promising. I'll give it a pin when the author manages
to get the site a little more complete.
