Vitoria, Ilha do Mel |
Vitoria, capital of Espirito Santo state, has a population of
about one
million in the metropolitan area. It is located in a beatiful island very
close to the continent. It is a busy seaport and a growing industrial center
(steel, textile, sugar refineries, cocoa). Together with Tubarao,
just north of city, Vitoria is the leading iron-ore port of
Brazil. Vitoria is
460 years old. The people are very representative of the Brazilian
melting pot (Italians, Germans, Native Americans, Portuguese,
African Americans). The food is delicious, especially fish cooked in
clay pot. It is located just 50 minutes from
Rio de Janeiro, by
plane.
Beaches are wonderful and most of the time the weather is very good, sunny
and warm.
