Start this ride at the Oakridge Post Office on the corner of Oak and First. This gives you the opportunity to get warmed up as you head east on Salmon Creek Road. At 3.75 miles take a right on Road 207. Work your way up the hill for 1.5 miles. Here you will come to the Eugene to Crest Trail sign. Take the single-track trail for just a few yards until you come to the Aubrey Mountain trailhead. This trail takes you to the summit of Aubrey Mountain. If you stay left, you will come to another trail junction with a "no motorcycles" sign; go right. Keep your eyes peeled for the trail. It's downhill for 5 miles back to Oakridge.
There are several places that walking would be safer and would avoid scarring the trail because of the wet meadows and rocky areas. Elk often browse on the lower sections of the trail.
When you reach the dirt road, go left. Go around the guard rail gate and continue on gravel until you reach the pavement. Go left on Dunning Road. Cruise down this road until you reach the stop sign. Turn right here, Fish Hatchery Road, and follow it back to Salmon Creek Road; take a left back to the car.
