SHOIN STYLE ARCHITECTURE (interior)

The shoin style flourished in the Momoyama and Edo periods. Its origins may be seen at 15th c. Muromachi-period structures such as the Tôgudô (1486, Jishôji). See Mason, pp. 204-5 and pp. 214-15

Elements used in the shoin style include:

tatami

fusuma

chigaidana

tsuke shoin

tokonoma
