Abstract

This project examines heat loss in an indoor pool at the YMCA in Berkeley, California. Evaporation was found to be the most significant form of heat loss over convection and conduction. Strategies for minimizing heat loss, including solar heating and pool covers, were examined and energy savings were estimated. Installation of a pool cover was found to be the most effective way to reduce energy usage.
