After days of turning his back on his own University community, President Frohnmayer has agreed to meet with concerned students, staff, faculty and community members on Monday at 6 p.m. in the Fir Room.

Let us work together to see that people -- whether they are garmentworkers, citizens or members of this University -- have access to the decisions that affect them.

Brief history:

One year ago, students began educating the University around anti-sweatshop issues. After six months of stalling, an advisory committee was formed. One month ago, UO students voted by a three-fourths majority for the UO to join the Worker Rights Consortium, a non-profit organization that will verify and inspect conditions in factories producing apparel for colleges and universities. Three weeks ago, the advisory committee voted unanimously in support of the WRC. On March 31, the UO lost the opportunity to have a seat at the WRC founding conference, held April 7 in New York. Since April 4, the area in front of Johnson Hall has been transformed from a bare concrete walkway to a vibrant city of tents filled with people occupying the space. Since that time, 14 people have been arrested for their insistence on worker rights, campus democracy, and the opportunity for dialogue.
