Fierce Grace

Fierce Grace (2002) is a documentary about the counter culture spiritual leader Ram Dass (Timothy Leary), who began his career as a Harvard psychology professor but was fired for his experimentation with LSD during the 1960s (before it was illegalized). After the initial period of experimentation, he travelled to India to study with a Hindu guru named Maharaj ji, and Ram Dass later wrote a bestseller entitled, Be Here Now.

This documentary picks up Ram Dass after he had a major stroke in 1997 that left him partially paralyzed and with speech aphasia. You will be viewing the latter portion of this documentary as he struggles with his physical state, recounts his time with Maharaj ji, and counsels people who have experienced great loss.

During this phase of his life, he is unable to be articulate or glib (depending on the person's interpretation) as he was previously, and so he must find a way to express his Hindu-inspired spirituality that does not rely on intellectual prowess or fancy words.
