Much of the salt pan is actually the broad, flat distributary terminus of the Amargosa river. This part is therefore not a proper playa, but instead a low-relief river delta system with alternating channels and floodplain areas. From Dantes View, one can see individual channels on the salt pan as far north as Badwater.
