A Weekend At Paulina Lake...

A vista of Paulina Lake |

On the morning of the second day, I hiked a trail which passed several excellent viewpoints of Paulina Lake, hence I've dubbed this page "View Trail." But first...
- I retraced some of my steps on the Lake Trail and veered off to visit Paulina Falls. There are actually a series of falls, and the hike can be a little long (over 16 miles) if you try to see all of them this way (but you can also get to them by driving).
- I then hiked the Little Crater Trail which is also close to the campground and takes you about .3 of a mile up the side of a mini (and dormant!) volcano crater. This trail is great for getting scenic vistas of the Lake from a greater height as well as seeing interesting formations left by the volcanic activity, such as the collapsed lava tube shown above. For more on lava tubes and caves, check out info for another hike in this area, Lava River Cave.
