sac-class: Comments on shelflisting outline
I am sorry not to have been able to attend the meeting in Chicago.
I have just read over the shelflisting outline. Two statements are no longer correct.
IV, 2: Disadvantages. There may be no printed index to all the schedules, but that index is available in Classification Web, where the individual indexes are all rolled into one.
VII 3 b: Shelflisting has not been done by a separate "department" (actually, it was a section of the Subject Cataloging Division) since 1992, when there was a major reorganization. Most shelflisting is still done by technicians, but some catalogers are now learning to do their own shelflisting.
