sac-class: Program proposal for Annual 2006
It's hard to believe that we would already be discussing an
ALA program.... but we are expected to show a brief preview of our
workshop at Annual 2006, and the planning process begins now. Our
proposal goes through the ALCTS Program Committee process, with PCC as
co-sponsor.
For the two courses previously developed (Basic Subject Cataloging and
Basic Creation of Name and Title Authorities), the developers presented a
2-hour program showcasing one session from the course and getting
feedback from attendees on what worked well, what didn't, ideas to
incorporate into the rest of the course. I was the program
planner for the LCSH program and have prepared a proposal following that
model, which I will take to CCS and to the ALCTS Program Committee for
their approval.
It is pretty vague at this point -- which is fine, actually, but by
Midwinter we will need to have firmer plans about which session we will
present and who will do what. I have posted the proposal form to
our web page (it wouldn't go through as an attachment).
Please look it over and bring it to our meeting. Comments are
welcome now, but there isn't a lot of substance in the proposal at this
point, so don't feel you need to spend time on it before the
conference.
We will want to present a session (or part of one) that is practical and
application-oriented and will be a good draw for the full workshop.
As we work, think about what would be appealing in this setting.
We'll discuss ideas in our meeting in Chicago but don't have to have it
resolved right away.
We will need to settle on a preferred time slot and second choice in
Chicago. I have marked early Sunday afternoon as the first choice
(again following what was done for the LCSH program, since this fits well
with other SAC activities) and have not yet indicated a second
choice.
