sac-class: 2006 Midwinter and Annual Conference Schedule Changes

As you may have heard, there are some significant changes ahead with scheduling ALA meetings, beginning with Midwinter 2006.   We will need to discuss our meeting times for Midwinter and beyond with these changes in mind.

I'm forwarding a message from Bruce with more information.  The article in the ALCTS newsletter includes a spreadsheet view of the new overall schedule.  Please look this over before the conference.

I know we all have other meeting commitments which will need to be adjusted as well.  I hope that by Sunday afternoon, we will have a general idea of which meeting times will work for us.  The actual scheduling of meeting space for both Midwinter and Annual happens surprisingly early in the fall.

SAC Members, Liaisons, and Subcommittee Chairs:

At Midwinter 2005 in Boston, the ALA Executive Board approved a fairly radical change in the conference schedules for the 2006 conference year. What this means for us is that our two SAC meetings and all subcommittee meetings will have to be rescheduled according to the new schedule. Please read the article from the ALCTS Newsletter at this URL for background information:

My understanding is that meetings must begin at the determined hour, but can end at any time. If more time is needed than what is allotted in a designated slot, two consecutive slots would have to be scheduled. 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. meetings are still a possibility as are meetings scheduled in the low conflict times.

I will schedule some time on the SAC agenda for discussion and subcommittee chairs will probably want to do the same. Keep in mind that room selections for both Midwinter and Annual must be made in the fall, so Annual is the last time we will meet before then.

I'm sending this out to you now so that you can start thinking about it. If you have any questions, please post them to the list so that I can try to get answers before Annual.
