Class Etiquette & Norms
Please Do:
Come to class on time
Sit with your group
Pick up your group folder from Barb as you come in
Be in your seat and quiet when it is time for class to begin
Bring food and drink if you need to, and eat/drink quietly
Keep attendance records in your group folder
Stay for the whole class
Return group folder to Barb at the end of the class
Okay before class begins
Ask Barb (TA) questions before class
Read the newpaper, joke with neighbors, take a nap, wander about in the aisles
Okay during class
Surreptitiously do non-class related activities in a way that won't attract my attention or
distract other classmates. If I don't notice, it won't distract me.
Okay after class is over
Ask Barb questions, pick up any handouts you are missing
Come up after class to ask me questions. I'm happy to listen but may also be packing up to clear out before the next class
Get up and leave when the time for class is up, even if I am still talking. That will signal
to me that I need to stop.
To avoid distracting professor and other students, please Don't:
Read the newpaper, joke with neighbors, take a nap, wander about in the aisles during class unless this is part of a class exercise.
Talk to me before class. I'm focusing on getting organized. Exception: If you need to
leave before class is over let me know before class; I'll be less distracted by your
departure.
Don't cheat
Cheating, if detected, will earn a failing grade in the course. Cheating includes plagiarism and copying from others during the individual portion of exams. Don't do it.
