Concept A suggests building on the one story portions of existing residence hall buildings as a way of increasing density without increasing use of open space and, in many cases, without occupying space that is generally perceived from the rest of campus. This could occur at Ear, Walton, Hamilton, and perhaps Bean (although that is a slightly different case with its internal courtyards). This proposal would be likely to exceed the floor area ratio densities in the Long Range Campus Development Plan for the Earl/Walton area, but probably complies with the coverage restrictions of the LRCDP.
