COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND GRADING:

ATTENDANCE: Roll will be taken daily. If you do not attend at least 50% of each of the first two weeks, you will be automatically dropped from the roll. Leaving class early will void your attendance. If you need to do this, you must clear it with me prior to class.

HOMEWORK: An assignment list is attached. Homework will not be collected, however, you will need to complete each assignment for the purpose of quizzes. It is also helpful in reinforcing the learning of the material. Show all of the steps used to solve a problem and do all graphs on graph paper. Organize your assignments in a notebook separate from your class notes. Label everything clearly and do work neatly.

QUIZZES: There will be a few unannounced homework quizzes throughout the term. These will be given in the first 5-10 minutes of class in which you will copy selected problems directly from your homework and/or do problems like the homework. You may not use your book or calculator. Points will be given based on the work shown, not just the answer. Quizzes are worth ten to thirty points each. Quiz points will not count if you leave class early without prior arrangements. Quizzes may not be made up under any circumstances. (Please don’t ask)

EXAMS: There will be three midterms (100 pts ea) and one final (150 pts) given only on the days scheduled on the calendar. If there is a good reason why you cannot make it on these days, you must let me know prior to the exam or it will be unexcused and a zero will be recorded. You may drop your lowest score on the midterms taken.

GRADES: Grades will be assigned according to the standard percentage with a possibility of a slight variation. Your lowest midterm taken will be thrown out. Your grade will be based on the two remaining exam scores, the final exam, and quiz scores for a total of 450 points. The plus/minus system will apply within these ranges. The grade ranges will be as follows:

The MRC is available to you for many resources, not including tutoring. In addition to the videos and video machines, there is a small library of texts for supplemental reading. The staff will be glad to assist you with any of these resources. Use of the MRC out side of class time is beneficial to your success in this class. Please take full advantage of it. The hours are: M-F 8:30 - 3:20 days UW 6:00 - 8:20 eves

Tutors will be available in the M&A Hallway 212 (outside MRC) to answer any questions you may have. Check the area for posted hours. Faculty will assist in this area on Mondays.

There are videotapes available for this course in the MRC. These tapes may be viewed in the MRC or some may be checked out overnight.

An interactive CD is available in the Computer Lab (Room 255). It includes the solutions manual, the entire textbook, and additional study aides. Two machines have the program. The MRC has one copy. You can purchase the CD from the bookstore for home use for approximately $35. (A Student Study and Solutions Guide is also available in the book store.)

I will distribute a class phone list at the end of the first week. This will allow you to work with your classmates and stay current if you miss a class. You will have the option of choosing to be on this list before I produce it. I will include my home number, and I encourage you to use it.

You are encouraged to contact me at the UO if you cannot reach me at LCC. There should never be a reason why you cannot reach me if you need to.
