| At 8:31am Sunday, January 11th Anna gave birth to a beautiful, health baby girl named Josey Alanna Scott. Measuring 8 lbs. 4oz. and 20.5" long she was born at home under water in a birthing tub after Anna had labored for 6 hours. With two midwives in attendance I was able to make the delivery myself and after about 20-30 seconds with her under water I lifted her face out and she took her first breath. Anna was stellar throughout making the whole process seem effortless. We are so thankful for such a perfect birth experience words cannot express. Page last updated: Feb. 13, 2004. |

| The shots above were taken about 12 minutes after Josey was born. She was already opening her eyes and kept stretching and flailing, enjoying her new world. We were trying to keep her arms and legs down in the water to keep her warm, but no way! All the midwife said was, "...good muscle tone..." Josey and Anna stayed in the tub for about 45 minutes because it was so comfortable before getting into bed. We left the umbilical cord attached for a little over an hour and these last two pictures are of Anna successfully attempting the first feeding shortly after getting out of the tub. | By the second day the reality that we had a baby daughter was beginning to sink in. She was full of meconium (prenatal pooh) and produced it for a full four days. Its normal for a new born to lose up to 25% of their birth weight waiting for Mom's milk to come in, but in our case I think I know the real reason why! By the forth day she had lost 1 lbs. 2oz. and as of 1/22 has leveled off at a steady 7lbs. 2oz. In the pictures above you can see that her nose is still a little scarred and flattened from birth. |

| With the second week life began to stabilize. Feeding became more second nature as Anna and Josey synchronized their efforts. Josey's body weight leveled out at 7 lbs. 2 oz. and remained constant for the week. |

| In the third week Josey really began to put the weight back on. In one four-day stretch she gained over a pound! You can see her cheeks getting chubby right before your eyes! |
