Network Access

To control who modifies files in the class folder on "Andromeda2" permissions have been set to allow special access to students in this class.  Those permissions are controlled by a "login" and a "password".  You will be unable to save data to the folders without this information.

To gain full access to the class folder and its subfolders, do one of the following:

From the Klamath Labs, do this:
Logoff your machine by clicking the "Start" button on the task bar, then choosing "Log Off <username>"  All programs will close.
At the Netware Login Screen, type the username and password that I give you.  Click "Ok".

Once logged on you should have full access to the Student Folder and all of its subfolders, including a folder you'll create titled <your last name>

You can find the class folder by using "My Computer" or Windows Explorer and navigating to "Courses on Andromeda2".

  From the DCL, do this:
On any windows machine, go to Network Neighborhood
Choose Entire Network
Choose Netware clients
Choose Andromeda
Enter your user/password when prompted.
Browse to "Arch410-510" etc.

If the above instruction do not work, then try the following
(these instructions should work from any remote computer):
Open a web browser and go to 'http://andromeda2.uoregon.edu'
Some browsers will put up repeated security warnings -- just keep clicking 'OK' and 'Continue' etc.
Enter your user/password when prompted.
Click on the 'Courses' link on the left side and you'll see the Fall course folder appear on the right side.
Clicking on a readable file will open the file.
Right-click a file to save to your local drive. To delete a file, click the questionmark icon to the left of the file to be prompted for deletion..

Many students report corrupted files when they used the network connection.  Most of the problems seemed to stem from opening AutoCAD files directly across the network in the Design Computing Laboratory in Lawrence Hall that are saved on a remote network drive like Andromeda.

Problems seemed to be avoided when drawing files were first copied to a local machine in the DCL, worked on from a local hard drive, and then saved back across the network to Andromeda when completed.  Better yet, do your work in the McKenzie Lab.

If you have problems, please let me know.
