Image Acquisition

Digital Camera (QuickTake 200)
- Check out from Student Services (batteries not included)
- Get software from Banana on AAA Lawrence. Drag and drop Quicktake 200 folder onto your hard disk, run install program.
- Take pictures with camera and download to the computer using either Camera Access Program, or via Photoshop - Note: to get pictures to download via Photoshop, get the “Quicktake 200 Photoshop plug-in” out of the “Goodies” folder in the “Quicktake 200 Software” folder and put into the Import folder of the Photoshop Plug-in’s folder. This will allow you to download the pictures using the “Acquire” command in Photoshop.

Flatbed Scanning
- 100 dpi for final image size is the preferred standard
- Open Photoshop, under File choose “Acquire”, and choose the name of the scanner (ScanWizard, etc.)
- Using Scan Wizard window - run a preview to choose area to crop, select resolution and other basic settings, then scan.

Nikon Scanner -
- Same basic considerations of resolution and settings as the Flatbed Scanner.

Image Manipulations

Basics of Photoshop 4.0
- Under “Image” pull-down menu to “Image Size”
- Black/White balance - “Image” pull-down menu - “Adjust” - “Levels”, manual or auto adjust
- Color balance - “Image” pull-down menu - “Adjust” - “Variations”
- Brightness & Contrast- “Image” pull-down menu - “Adjust” - “Brightness & contrast
- Saving - .tiff or.jpeg file type recommended. (jpeg will degenerate image quality over time)


Creating a collage of images with Photoshop
- “Layer Menu” - Make new layer
- Copy and Past a second image into the file on a separate layer
- Adjust the Opacity by moving the slide on the Layer Menu
- To Save as a .tiff or .jpeg - Note: image must be “Flattened” - command located on Layer Menu.
