Choose color, greyscale or lineart.
Rule of thumb for scanning prints that will be used at actual size:
Scan at one third (1:3) resolution of printer if printing image at full size.
HP 5si prints at 300dpi = scan at 100dpi for full size print.
Saarinen prints at 600 dpi = scan at 200dpi for full size print.
Max resolution on web is 72dpi, so scans can be low resolution.
More comprehensive example:
Original image dimensions: 5 inches wide by 3 inches high
Printer specs: screen ruling of 150 lines per inch or 300 dpi
need 1500 x 900 pixels or (5 inches wide x 300) x (3 inches high
x 300)
final size [inches]
Input = _________________________ x 2 [ppi/lpi] x Line screen [lpi]
resolution
original size [inches] [ppi]
Tricky thing is that screen ruling depends on the output stock as well as the
device:
53 - 63 lpi for a 300 to 600 dpi laserprinter
85 lpi for newspaper
133 lpi for glossy stock
150-200 for magazines.

Digital camera:
If you have Mac OS8 installed, DO NOT install the software that is available on disk with the camera. It will cause problems.
Download (and then install) software from:
Appleshare>Chooser>UO Net>CC Public Domain> Software
Application Updates>Photoflash for Quicktake
Choose Hi-res images (8 shots before downloading) or Lo-res (32 shots).
Keep in mind that batteries run out very quickly.
