OUT/LOUD Musician Bios 2007

God-Des and She

God-Des and She is an edgy gay hip hop duo with a rapidly growing fanbase that extends way beyond the queer community. The New York based hip hop pair take pride in their experimental streak. Creativity is hard to find within the bling-and-booty-saturated lyrics of the hip hop world, but God-Des and She believes in constantly changing the pace and injecting new beats and off the wall lyrics to their music. The pair has an amazing ability to connect with a diverse group of people, and they prize originality and energy is everything they put out.

God-Des and She’s star has risen quickly in the last couple of years. The pair has performed with the likes of MC Lyte and Slick Rick, recorded with Dead Prize and Mos Def, and had their music featured on the hit lesbian TV show, The L Word. But their talents extend beyond music. God-Des and She are the focus of “Hip Hop Homos,” a new TV show on gay cable channel LOGO. God-Des and She come to Eugene fresh off an appearance at The Dinah Shore Weekend, the biggest all-women party in the country, held annually in Palm Springs, Calif. The pair will also be playing at The L Festival, the UK equivalent of Dinah Shore, and has also been booked for the Michigan Women’s Music Festival, the biggest queer women’s music event in the country.

Sophe Lux

You ain’t heard emo till you’ve heard Sophe Lux, a moody, brooding rock band from Portland, Ore. that has drawn comparisons to Ella Fitzgerald the legendary David Bowie. The quartet’s theatrical bent, outrageous costumes and sizzling operettas give them a unique look and feel amidst the sea of generic rock bands out there. Their lyrics are inspired by the writings of Nietzsche and Lou Salome, and their music incorporates the use of tinkling bells, harpsichords and accordions that gives them a distinct sophisticated sound.

Sophe Lux was named Spin.com’s Band of the Day for Feb. 7, 2007, and was a finalist for Wearelistening.org’s 2006 Singer/Songwriter Awards. The band has also received positive reviews on MTV.com and featured in Bitch Magazine.

Sistas in the Pit

Sistas in the Pit is a Bay Area based band composed of three already successful artists who have combined their talents and embarked on a collective career. Anita “Pa” Lofton originally found fame as DJ Anita Lofton, but has brought eclectic talents to the group as their lead guitarist. Kofy Brown first made a name for herself as a world-renowned hip hop artist, and has since brought her deep, thumping tones to the band’s bass line. Ieela Gant keeps the Sistas steady with her repertoire on the drum kit that includes the congos, bongos and djembe. Together, the Sistas play some mighty sexy rock… black girl style.

Sistas in the Pit recently completed their first national tour, opening for punk icon Iggy and the Stooges. This up-an-coming band will make their Eugene debut at Out/Loud.
