Lorry I. Lokey Integrative Science Complex
Completed in 2007

In 2003, a statewide nanoscience initiative resulted in a new entity called the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI). This 26,500 gsf facility is the first phase of this initiative and is largely underground. Its design was based on metering on existing installations around campus to create right-sizing of major equipment loads, use of excess building service capacity from adjacent buildings for heating hot water, colling chilled water, compressed air, etc. The labs also features occupancy sensors on fume hood sashes, variable air volume supply and exhaust air. The project has a major reduction in material used- furniture replaced casework, polished concrete floors, no ceilings. The labs also feature an equipment gallery that reduces the need for once-through air while isolating noise and vibration.
