Lillis Hall - Lillis Business Complex
Completed in 2003

Completed in 2003, the Lillis Business Complex is the university's most ambitious sustainable project yet. It uses about 45% less energy than SEED required in 2002 and incorporates a full spectrum of sustainable measures including:

  • Natural cooling and ventilation through increased thermal mass and a central atrium that acts as a chimney;
  • Photovoltaic cells with a solar generating capacity of about 6% of the building's energy use;
  • Innovative climate settings based on actual comfort versus standard protocols;
  • Effective daylighting strategies so that most rooms are lit without electric lighting;
  • Occupancy sensors on lights and certain outlets; and
  • A comprehensive (97%) demolition waste recycling program.
