Further information is available at http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~uosenate/dirsen/13may98.html. This motion added two new required questions to the course evaluations. Implementation of the two questions was delayed until Fall 1999. That time is now. I am writing to you to inquire if you could provide me with an update as to the progress of the implementation process. I have entered this as an agenda item for the October 27 meeting of the Senate Executive Committee. I should be grateful if you could furnish me with a brief email giving your assessment of the implementation process that I could provide to the Senate Executive Committee at that time. Additionally, I have recently been made aware of a significant cost issue associated with this implementation. When the financial impact statement was presented to the Senate, it was assumed (a) that most of the forms would be used up by the end of Summer 1999 and (b) there were no significant additional costs associated with reprogramming the computers. It now turns out that assumption (a) is not really valid and I am concerned that perhaps assumption (b) may not be valid as well. So I would appreciate any input you might have on the matter. I think this falls under your pervue - if not, I should be most grateful if you could point me in the correct direction. The UO has a long tradition of shared governance. I appologize in advance for the additional burden this request puts on you but am sure you can understand the necessity I feel to keep the UO Senate and the Student Senate informed as to the implementation of this important piece of legislation. We were informed that only 500 forms would be accepted for credit by scanning services. The Mathematics Department uses thousands of these forms each term and even without ordering any for Spring, 1999 still have on hand some 1500 forms. We were charged 225.00 (.15 each) for these forms and will receive back a $25.00 credit. This is not acceptable. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Kay J. Newman Budget Manager
