I am sending a copy of this email to Gwen Steigelman (Secretary of the Faculty) and to Dave Hubin (Special Assistant to the President) so that they can take care of any necessary formalities. My only concern is that we are overworking you - you are a member of the Senate Executive Committee and also of the Senate Rules Committee. So if your sense of prudence overcomes your public spiritedness in the next few days, do feel free to reconsider. Do not get me wrong. I am DELIGHTED you have accepted - you will be a wonderful addition to that committee and I can't think of anyone I would rather appoint to serve as the Senate representative. I am just concerned about the additional burden that this places upon you. The UO has a long tradition of shared governance. It is only through the voluntary service that public spirited faculty members such as yourself exhibit that this tradition can be maintained. Thank you very much. Peter B Gilkey (UO Senate President 1999/2000)
