Motion US9900-4

Student Senator Jereme Grzybowski ( jgrzybow@gladstone.uoregon.edu) has transmitted to Senate President Peter Gilkey (gilkey@darkwing.uoregon.edu) a rough draft of a motion concerning drop/add deadlines for internships that Student Senator Jereme Grzybowski will present to the 1 December meeting of the UO Senate; it has been placed as an agenda item for that meeting and assigned a motion number (US9900-4). Notice of motion was given by Student Senator Jereme Grzybowski at the October meeting of the UO Senate. For related material, see the minutes of the Senate meetings 14 January 1998 and 14 April 1999 which concerned Drop/Add deadlines.
MOTION Effective Spring term of 2000, the deadline for students to add faculty sponsored for-credit internships shall be 12 class days.

EXPLANATION Current rules treat the adding of internships the same as all courses. This measure provides 4 additional class days to complete the internship process. The process for finding internship programs and faculty sponsors, as well as the other paperwork and requirements limit the ability for student to successfully sign up for internships. Hands on work that internships provide are essential to the University educational experience, this measure would facilitate and promote increased student involvment in the University and community at large.
