From: Dave Hubin, Chair, Distinguished Service Award Committee
Subject: Notice of Motion
By this communication I wish to inform you formally of my wish to give
formal notice of motion requesting the April 12 Senate session to ammend
the 1956 legislation that established procedures and protocols for the
Distinguished Service Award.
Also through this communication, I wish to request--subsequent to and
contingent upon approval of the above revision--an executive session of
the senate to discuss and consider proposed nominees for the Distinguished
Service Award to be awarded at this Spring's commencement.
REMARK: The current language concerning the "distinguished service
award'' reflects Assembly Legislation of 2 May 1956 as amended subsequently
on 1 June 1983 and on 22 May 1991. On 24 February 2000, The Distinguished
Service Committee voted to amend the language concerning the ``distinguished
service award'' to replace the references to "Charter Day" in the existing
legislation by corresponding references to "Commencement". The committee
notes that "Charter Day'' no longer exists and further notes that the award
is actually given at Commencement. Furthermore, the secretary of the Senate
has suggested the words "selection committee" be updated to read "Distinguished
Service Committee" as reflecting current usage; other minor editorial changes
have also been made. The additional changes were approved by the Senate
Executive Committee on Wednesday 28 April 2000 and the DSA was subsequently
notified and no objections were received.
