Summer Session at the U of O

General Information

The first, second, and third-year Japanese language programs are offered during the summer in an intensive 9-week program. Students are immersed in Japanese from 8 AM to 2 PM daily and study the same materials that the regular program covers. First-year students are encouraged to learn the phonetic scripts before the session begins.

★Summer Transfer Students & Summer Exchange Students ★
If you have studied Japanese elsewhere and wish to study in the second or third year class during the summer, you are required to take the placement test. Please click here for the test's information and try to complete the placement process by the morning of the first day of the summer program.

Course Description

The classes meet 5 hours a day and 5 days a week during the summer. The basic instruction for a day includes 2 hours of lecture/practice sessions, 2 hours of practice sessions and 1 hour of language laboratory session. The summer students are expected to spend 1 ~ 2 hours on independent study outside of class each day.

(Our regular courses meet 50 hours over 10 weeks in one term whereas the summer courses meet 75 hours over 3 weeks for a term's worth instruction.)
