Able to grasp crucial information from a conversation containing fairly
complicated explanations or descriptions (explanation of an accident, how
to carry out a trans-action, etc.) which are necessary in daily life

Able to understand the gist of and follow the plot of TV / radio programs,etc.
which have a storyline

Able to catch the gist of TV / radio programs about familiar social issues
which are based to a certain degree upon previous background knowledge
(vocabulary included)

Able to understand the gist of a conversation and the relationship between
the speaker and the people / things which are being discussed from the
speech style.

(Guessing skills: able to understand the contents of a story from the context
even if there are unknown vocabulary and expressions; also able to guess
the meaning from the context when unknown vocabulary are key words )

Able to catch the gist of TV / radio programs (health consultations, news
for children, etc.) which do not include technical terms or in which technical
language is explained in simple terms

Able to understand the gist of TV programs containing a story line about
ordinary problems (Sazae-san, family dramas, etc.) not requiring a deep
understanding of the Japanese culture

issues and give a simple opinion about it
