Syllabus Policies

Because a course syllabus establishes a contract between teacher and students, you should distribute a syllabus to all students at the first meeting of the class, but no later than the end of the first week. The syllabus provides an early opportunity to present the course agenda and Department policy.

Each syllabus must contain at least the following information (click on links for copy/paste syllabus statements):

  1. Your name, office location, and campus phone
  2. Office hours
  3. The course number and CRN
  4. Course meeting time and place
  5. Textbook titles (and edition number, if applicable)
  6. Your policies on grading, late work, and attendance
  7. Statement of Composition Program policy on incompletes
  8. Statement of policy on rough drafts
  9. Statements on prerequisites for the course
  10. Statement of policy on plagiarism and academic dishonesty
  11. A schedule of assignments and activities
  12. Statement of policy on access for students with disabilities

If any of your syllabus information changes during the term, you should distribute an addendum to all students. Each syllabus is kept on file in the Composition Office as a matter of record and as a resource for other teachers. By the end of the first week of classes, give a copy of your syllabus to the Composition Secretary, Susan Dickens.
