Required Classes

The University of Oregon requires all undergraduate students to complete two courses in composition with a minimum grade of C-minus or P, or to be cleared of all or part of the requirement by established waiver and exemption procedures. The requirements are Writing 121 and either 122 or 123, or their approved equivalents. University of Oregon writing courses numbered 199, 399, 400-410, or creative writing courses cannot be considered as equivalents.

Transfer students who have completed composition courses elsewhere will have those courses evaluated for equivalency by the Office of Admissions (240 Oregon Hall, phone (541) 346-3201) or in some cases by the Director of Composition (118 PLC, phone (541) 346-3911).

A full description of the requirements may be found in the current University of Oregon General Bulletin. Students are strongly advised to complete these requirements as early in their university education as possible.
