AHA
Meeting Minutes
7 May 2004
Marian C. Donnelly Conference Travel Grant Money
- Elizabeth volunteered to make thank-you
cards, one for the Art History faculty and the other for Mr. Donnelly.
There will be a typed or stamped message with signatures from all travel
grant recipients.
- The faculty will receive their card
before the Gerlinger Hall meeting in June, and Mr. Donnelly will be
presented with his thank-you card at the meeting.
Symposia
- A vote was taken for the theme of next
April’s symposia: cultural identity/conflict was chosen over limitations
placed on art, nature and feminism. Elizabeth and Tina will meet to
discuss working titles and will send them to the listserv at a later date.
Publicity
- Gayle has the AHA website up and running
and has placed an AHA ad in Siren Magazine. Gayle also gave an ad for the
2005 symposia to the museum, Professor Sundt, the Cultural Forum and to
the UO Art History web master. (No posting is expected until summer
though.)
Art Collecting
- There was a discussion about the
possibilities of an artwork-unveiling gala in fall. More investigating
needs to be done about finding out about the artist’s website and the
possibility of linking ours with his.
PAM Events
- Elizabeth offered to organize the
Pre-Raphaelites Exhibit group next spring.
- Not much enthusiasm was shown for the
current PAM exhibitions, but there were exciting rumors of a 2007 Egyptian
show.
AAA Student Advisory Committee
·
Everyone
present agreed that a better use of our time would be to compose a letter addressing
the recent office thefts and inquire about how to improve security. Elizabeth
volunteered to write the letter and suggested that all GTF’s and possibly the
architecture students who have offices in the vicinity sign it.
Faculty Report
·
Dawn
reported that the Certificate for Museum Studies has been approved; it will
take up to an additional year and require a total of 28 credits.
·
For
the Master’s program for fall 2004 there are twelve who have accepted and one
deferral thus far.
·
Professor
Harper may be gone for winter term, pending a grant decision.
·
Professor
Simmons’ sabbatical will be 2006-7.
·
Dawn’s
full faculty report is available upon request.
Garage Sale Fundraiser
- This year’s garage sale has been
postponed until next year. Save your good junk!
End of the Year Picnic
- The date: May 22. The place: Gail’s
house. Time to be decided by Gail? Dawn will send out an email survey of
vegetarians and carnivores and everyone’s beverage preferences. Meat and
meat-substitutes will be purchased with AHA funds. Side dishes and
desserts will be potluck style. Karin will be responsible for the pony keg
(pending Gail’s alcohol approval).
- There was talk of including all art
history students on the email invitation.
Donation
- Elizabeth suggested that it would be a nice
gesture for the AHA to contribute some needed item to the Art History
department. Dawn suggested a new bench with back support for the outside
of Room 241, perhaps with a small plaque. A rough figure of a couple
hundred dollars was discussed.
Next Meeting, Final Thoughts
- The next AHA meeting is tentatively
scheduled for the second week in October.
- A fall AHA social at McMenamin’s High
Street Café is tentatively set for the evening prior to the department’s
graduate orientation meeting in late September. It was agreed that High
Street would be a more relaxed setting to get to know one another than the
sometimes-stressful orientation.
