UO Art History Association Minutes
Friday, April 9, 2004 2:00 pm | Hearth Café, Lawrence Hall
Richard Sundt’s announcements
- Congratulated
us on a wonderful symposium and suggested better advertisement for next
year.
- The
faculty is working on the travel funds distribution.
- Richard
supports the acquisitions project, but voiced concern about storage space
and security.
2004 Symposium Report (Elizabeth Wages)
- Success
– there will definitely be a 2005 Symposium
- Elizabeth
is looking into the possibility of publishing the papers from our first
symposium. She will speak with Christine Sundt
about copyright and publication issues.
General Advertising (Gayle Goudy Kochanski)
- Sion Magazine – Gayle will contact them about free
advertising
- Mortar
Board – ad has been submitted and should appear in next year’s calendar
Art Collecting (Crystal Gauger)
- A work
by Michael Sherwin has been selected for the collection
- Committee
will explore framing options
- Crystal
will speak with Christine Sundt in VRC about
submitting a slide for their collection.
- Crystal
will get the artist’s statement and CV-equivalent for our records
- Crystal
has given Dawn the contact information and other documents for an easier
transition
- Dawn
will contact the UO Museum of Art to see if it is possible to get a spot
to display our acquisition. Perhaps a regular place like
an end-wall.
- For
next year, we need a larger advertising budget, and should better use
lists and website announcements (such as UO homepage, link from department
site, UO calendar of events, the Cultural events homepage, and Art
department)
PAM Events (Elizabeth Wages)
- Elizabeth
will email the list so people can sign up for either a April 24 or April
25 trip
AAA Student Advisory Committee report (not represented)
- If
you are available on Wednesday 12-1pm,
and would like to represent Art History in the AAA school, contact Gayle
(gkochans@uoregon.edu)
Faculty
Report (Dawn Borgardt / Carla Devore)
- Minutes
have been posted to the list
Garage Sale
Fundraiser (Elizabeth Wages)
- Clare
has volunteered her garage
- Clare
and Elizabeth will decide on the date, it will be a one day sale
- Elizabeth
will email the list with more details.
End of the
Year Picnic (Elizabeth Wages / Gayle Goudy Kochanski)
- Dawn
will make park reservations, perhaps at Alton
Baker Park
- The
picnic will be for all students, and would be a great opportunity to get
new people involved (perhaps undergrads in your discussion groups)
- Elizabeth
will ask Bryan to BBQ (he’s Texan and knows his BBQ), but of course there will
be vegetarian options. Side dishes – pot luck.
- Croquet
and lawn game fun
Position
modifications (Gayle Goudy Kochanski)
- Eliminate
the Treasurer position and add responsibilities to Co-Chair positions.
- Add
Communication Chair because communication and advertising has been a
weakness in our program this year. This position will communicate with
ASUO, organize general advertising, keep website up to date, and create a
newsletter. Additionally, this position will help the curator and
symposium directors with advertising and publication for the symposiums
and art show, as needed.
- Add
Graduate Symposium Chair because it was not an official position in last
year’s by-laws. This position will organize the spring graduate symposium
including call for papers and soliciting speakers, reserving room, and
catering. This person is also responsible for working with the Co-chairs
to create a budget and establish fundraising goals and working with the
Communication Chair on advertising and publication.
- Add
Undergraduate Symposium Chair so we can have an undergraduate symposium
too. The duties are the same as the Graduate Symposium Chair. The two
symposium chairs can decide to have the symposiums concurrently or
separately.
