UO Art History
Association Meeting Minutes
October 3, 2003 4:00 pm | Hearth
Café, Lawrence Hall
Symposium
- Topic 2 was chosen: Here
and Now, Then and When: The visualization of past and future in art
and architecture. The topic of time (or timelessness) is a topic
that is relevant in all areas of art and architecture and could
potentially involve all interest areas. Liz Parr will rewrite this
topic idea eloquently and email it to the group.
- Date for symposium is set
for April 3-4, 2004. This is early enough during spring term that we
are not overwhelmed with studies and that other schools on the semester
system are still in school.
- Funding needs were
discussed. We will need money to provide coffee and breakfast to
guests, lunch for participants and travel and lodging expenses for keynote
speaker. We hope to secure at lease $300 from ASUO and hold
fundraising activities for the remainder. Liz will research a
preliminary budget to give us a better idea of how much we need.
- Email Liz (parrelizabeth@hotmail.com) with suggestions for key note speakers.

Conferences
Email Gayle (gkochans@darkwing.uoregon.)
letting her know what conferences you are planning to attend so that she and
Elizabeth could compose a letter to the faculty asking for monetary support for
attending the conferences as a group. Email the conference organizer when
you have registered to the conference and will definitely attend.
Organizers were announced:
- Archaeological Institute of America Annual
Meeting, January 2-5 in San Francisco – Heather is researching ways to get discounts on
registration by volunteering and cheaper rooms in San Francisco.
·
College Art
Association Annual Conference, February 18-21 in
Seattle – Email Clare when you have registered for the
conference. She is putting together a preliminary budget of cost per
person. The CAA membership application is now online and it takes 5 to 7
weeks to process. Interested students should start the application
process.
- Society of Architectural
Historians Annual
Meeting, April 14-18 in Providence, RI – Amanda is researching options for students to
pay less registration fees (registering as a group, perhaps with the
Society for Historic Preservation or volunteering to set up at the conference)
·

Asian Studies Annual
Meeting, March 4-7, 2004 in San Diego – An organized trip to this

Fundraising
Email Justin Gershwin (jgershwi@darkwing.uoregon.edu)
with fundraising ideas and to volunteer.
- To have a bake sale in front
of the bookstore, we need to sign up at the customer service desk
- Selling postcards of
original photography in AAA was proposed, we need to research building
reservation procedures.
- ASUO – apparently
our UOAHA ASUO file walked off with an undergraduate officer a couple
years ago, I am re-registering and will try to prove that we are an
established group. As a new group we are eligible for a maximum of
$300 as a returning group we can ask the student senate to grant us
more. Elizabeth and I have written By-laws. Please review them
and email comments to Gayle and Elizabeth. The By-laws are posted on
the prototype website:
http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~gkochans/uoaha/uoaha.html
- Travel funds from Dept --
With so many students interested in going to annual meetings, we will
submit one letter to the faculty asking for some money to attend the
conferences. Their priority is to fund students presenting papers,
but we believe they might help subsidize an organized group of students.
Resource Room
- Gayle will burn your data
from last year to a CD on next week. Contact her if you need stuff
burned (gkochans@darkwing.uoregon.edu). The hard-drive space should
be cleared and defragmenter to run faster. It is best to do this
before people start saving 2003-4 files. Please back up your files
before October 13.
- If you have suggestions
for using the physical space better (shelving, lockers, paint, ventilation,
etc.) send an email to arthistory@lists.uoregon.edu
Next meeting: Tentatively
set for Friday, October 31 at 4:00 pm in the Hearth Café.
The meeting was adjourned at
5:00 pm to Rennie’s for socializing.
