The Oregon Educator Licensure Assessments (ORELA™) program
offers a teacher licensure test for candidates at three authorization
levels: early childhood, elementary, and middle school. This test,
the ORELA Multiple Subjects Examination, is a criterion-referenced
and objective-based test designed to measure a candidate’s
knowledge and skills in relation to an established standard, rather
than in relation to the performance of other candidates.
The Multiple Subjects Examination is aligned with
the relevant Oregon teacher and student content standards and regulations.
The test is based on content determined by input from Oregon educators,
the TSPC, Oregon standards (i.e., the Oregon Content Standards and
Benchmarks, Oregon Grade-Level Foundations, Oregon Grade-Level Standards,
and the Common Curriculum Goals), and national standards when appropriate.
This test is taken in addition to CBEST or the PPST.
The ORELA Multiple Subjects Examination includes the
following subtests:
Subtest I: Language Arts, Social Science, The
Arts. This subtest consists of approximately 60 multiple-choice
items and 2 constructed-response items.
Subtest II: Mathematics, Science, Health and Physical
Education This subtest consists of approximately 60 multiple-choice
items and 2 constructed-response items.
Subtest III: Language Arts, Social Science, the
Arts, Reading Instruction This subtest consists of approximately
80 multiple-choice items (20 of which are specifically related to
reading instruction) and 2 constructed-response items.
You are required to pass 2 of the 3 subtests.
If you have received training in the state of Oregon, you will be
required to take subtest I and II. If you have received teacher
training in another state, you will be required to take subtest
II and III. Make sure you check with Teachers
Standards and Practices Commission if you have questions concerning
this.
