Veterans and their family members are a large and unique student population, and their numbers are growing every term due to new federal education benefits. These students are in virtually all majors, and they often keep their backgrounds hidden to avoid controversy. Rarely do instructors know when they have students with a military background in their classes, yet these students have the potential to excel in their studies when supported by caring faculty. They especially appreciate professors who understand their military experiences. This workshop will introduce participants to the perspectives of veteran students and their family members, and assist instructors in developing strategies for making their classrooms welcoming environments.
