Fall 2007 Teacher Trainings (September 10 -23, 2007)

Every year the Teaching Effectiveness Program offers teacher training to all instructors. While trainings focus on those who are teaching for the first time, we welcome any instructor who would benefit by attending. Sessions fill quickly and are capped at 25, so early sign up is recommended.

All trainings meet from 9am-4pm. Registration is required. Contact gcooper@uoregon.edu

Basic Teaching Skills for Leading a Discussion or Lab Section (choose one date)
Activities and materials focus on: getting students to prepare and participate,facilitating discussions, promoting critical thinking, using group work, grading, classroom management, preparing for exams and topics contributed by participants.

Sessions will be held in 185 Lillis (note: this is a room change)- Sept. 10,11,12,13,17,18 or 20
Saturday sessions (Sept. 15 or 22) will be held in room 260 Condon (note: this is a room change).

Teaching for the First Time as the Sole Instructor - Sept. 14 or Sept. 21
These sessions will be held in 185 Lillis and will focus on effective presentations, learning objectives and lesson planning,motivating your students to prepare for and engage with the course, promoting critical thinking, facilitating discussions, grading, working with groups, classroom management and topics contributed by participants.

Teaching Large Classes - Sept. 14 or Sept. 21 (note: room changes)
These sessions will be held in 175 Lillis (Sept. 14th) and 111 Lillis (Sept. 21st) and will focus on communication strategies for large audiences, promoting deep learning, learning objectives and lesson planning, group learning in large classes, classroom assessment techniques, working with GTFs, grading, effective presentations and topics contributed by participants.
