Presenter: Leslie Rutberg
Graduate teaching fellows play a critical role in any class. The preparation and continuing support they receive contribute signifi cantly to their success. Leslie Rutberg from the Teaching Effectiveness Program will facilitate a discussion to address questions and concerns from GTFs regarding their teaching roles and responsibilities. Examples include:
If I am leading a section:
How do I deal with students undermining or trash talking the professor?
How much freedom should I have to design my section?
How much guidance should I expect from the professor?
What do I do if the lectures are unclear?
If I am teaching on my own:
Who is my resource for support and mentoring?
How do I ask for help without sounding incompetent?
How do I access support and resources within my department?
What are the department policies on how to handle cheating?
Kassy Fisher and Marian Friestad from the Graduate School will give information and respond to questions concerning evaluation procedures and the role of the Graduate School in work agreement concerns.
