There are several things you can do to encourage discussion before class begins. In this workshop we will share strategies about how to prepare your students to talk, including: creating a participation rubric, discussion "ground-rules" as well as first day activities that build community to help students feel more comfortable speaking to each other.
Part Two— “Go-To” Questions for Meaningful Dialogue
Tuesday, November 6; 12-12:50
Century Room F. EMU
To register, contact Tim McMahon (timmc@uoregon.edu)
Facilitators: Tim McMahon (TEP) & Leslie Rutberg (TEP)
Have you ever found yourself staring at a room full of blank faces saying, "Ummm…..soooo…. what did you guys think, uh … about the reading?" You may have discovered your students need a little more guidance, perhaps more specific questions? Developing specific, thought provoking questions that encourage meaningful class discussion is an art form. Join us for this session and come away with specific questions to use and ideas about how to use them.
