Online Instruction Portfolio

Whether you are creating a new class or adapting an existing course for the web, teaching online for the first time can be exciting and challenging. There are questions you may already have in mind: How much time does it take? How can I adapt my activities for web access? How do I manage hundreds of posts in a discussion board? And there are questions that may not occur to you until you're midway through the term. For example: How you might make your site navigation intuitive? How will you assess discussion board participation? Are your instructions for assignments clear enough? Have you provided tech-support resources where necessary?

This site is designed to provide online instructors with a first-person guide to planning and teaching their first online course. These portfolios include descriptions of each instructor's course development process and important lessons learned during the term. They also include documents and excerpts from the class such as discussion boards, assignments, and syllabi. The faculty featured here participated in TEP's Teaching Beyond the Classroom training, a six week, fully online course where faculty worked through a series of modules to develop an online learning unit. All these modules are available for instructors throughout the year.
