Videotaping Your Teaching
Watching oneself teach is an excellent way to assess teaching behaviors and classroom interaction. TEP, in collaboration with Media Services, arranges the videotaping of classes for feedback on presentation and teaching skills. These tapes are viewed in a private follow up consultation. The tapes and subsequent consultations are strictly confidential. This service is available to all University of Oregon staff and instructors and strictly for purposes of feedback on teaching effectiveness.
Reasons why you might consider being videotaped:
- to assess presentation strengths and weaknesses
- to look at questioning strategies and student responses
- to see the balance of lecture and interaction
- to experience the class or training from your students' perspective
The first 30 minutes of the class is taped. When you meet with the TEP staff person to view your videotape, be sure to bring a new, blank digital video cassette if you want a copy for yourself. TEP does not archive the videotapes.
Read the Videotaping Self-Evaluation Guide.
Send requests for videotapings to TEP.
