During each two-week SEP camp session, approximately 8-12 students will be selected to participate in the Junior Counselor (JC) Leadership Program.

JC's attend leadership classes in the morning, and work with counselors and students to facilitate program activities in the afternoons and evenings. Topics covered in the classroom portion of the program include styles of leadership, project planning and organization, interviewing techniques, and the college application process. Many of these ideas are then applied outside of the classroom; JC's use their leadership and conflict resolution skills with the SEP students that they work with, and apply their project planning training to the evening activities that they coordinate and facilitate.

While JC's are at the University of Oregon, they live in university residence halls with SEP students and counselors, and gain daily hands-on experience assisting a counselor with a 15 student dorm group. JC's that complete the full program earn 130 community service hours.

The 2010 JC application forms are now available to download from this site. Hard copies are also available by request. Completed applications to the JC program must be postmarked by March 31, 2010 to receive full consideration. Partial applications will not be considered.

Please contact the SEP office at 541-346-1405 if you have any questions about the application process or the JC program.
