Pencil Tower VRML Models

Pencil Towers are incredibly striking structures. They must be seen to be clearly understood. However, even viewing such an object in it's urban context is not enough. It is critical that one can actually "see" the interiors of these cramped living spaces. Thus, it was determined that the most effective means for this visualization was VRML.

The following models were built by a research team at the Chinese University of Hong Kong's Department of Architecture in the Summer of 1996. There are three models for each object: urban context, a unit with furniture, and the load-bearing structure.

Preselected "walk-thrus" can be completed by clicking on the "view" triangles at the bottom of the control panel. The furniture that you see has been created for these models. Normal furniture does not fit. These items were placed by one of the Cantonese Architecture Student members of the research team, so they should reflect what he would "expect" to put into each apartment.

Enjoy.
